CHAPTER 3 - LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
Once Upon A Time Bears
come to you
sprinkled with love
Scents of lavender
clean & prettily wrapped with a lavender bag
She is rather mouse like in her looks and character too and is therefore rather a timid little bear sneaking out quietly when no one is looking or about just like the little mice that live behind the wooden skirting boards in the big Old house where she once lived !
As to her maker we are not quite sure although she does have some characteristics looks of Deans bears especially with her mouse like looks but also a little of Chad Valley bears but we will let you decide here too!
She measures 15 1/2" in length from head to foot paw!
Looby-lemons is a five-way jointed little bear , her joints do turn but her arms and legs are a trifle stiff with a touch of old bear rheumatics but this doesn't seem to trouble her too much and she just takes it all her stride that she cant move about as quickly as she used to Once upon a time!
Her mother taught her from being a young bear to always made sure she has had a good spoon full daily of the purest honey a bear can find and because of this She still has a fairly good covering all over of light blonde coloured mohair with very little loss or thinning to her coat .
She has retained perfectly her original nose and mouth stitching too even after all the little kisses that will have been gently placed on her nose many years ago.
Her paw pads are all covered in their original rexine type covering and apart from a little surface rubbing and expected wear from little paws to hand holding they are in good order with no holes in any of them.
She is stuffed softly with a kapok or material type filling to her body and limbs and wood wool to her head.
The filling in her legs has slightly shifted at the top but this isn't troubling her and she sits perfectly.
There is a small area at the top of her left leg at the front that has a light blue stain on the backing material beneath the mohair this is not really too noticeable or detrimental to her in my opinion and might have been caused by the inner filling .
Looby-Lemons is rather a quiet little bear these days as her press squeaker in her tummy is all pooped out but her sweet gentle face speaks volumes for her.
She comes dressed in her pretty lemon coloured knitted vintage dress with pretty netted headband and her lovely heart pendant.

She has even put her very best 'Liberty' dress on today for you from that very famous department store in London which she loves because it has a cute little red shaped heart pocket on the front.
Liberty-Lou is a very cute and characterful looking Old English bear dating to C1950 .
She measures 19" in height from head to foot-paw,
Liberty-Lou is a very neat , clean and tidy little bear who as you can see always likes to look and dress nicely.
She loves pretty and bright looking dresses especially when she can wear matching ribbons with them as she feels this just finishes off an outfit and we have to say we do rather agree with her !
Liberty-Lou has tried to watch her weight over the years and keep her slim bear figure by not eating too many honey cookies and she has indeed succeeded !
Liberty-Lou has been given replacement amber and black glass eyes at some time in her life and these suit her quite perfectly .
Her pert nose and mouth stitching has been with her however since the day she was born!
She is a five-way jointed old bear and all her joints move well for her , her right leg does tend to swing a little but its neither worrying or causing her any any problems at all .
Liberty-Lou's paw pads are all covered in a rexine type material and in pretty good order really with just a little light surface rubbing to them.
She has had a couple of Kind Nursie tiny stitches added to the top seams of a couple of her joints over the years which are very neat and discreet and really hard to see , these are neither worrying or detrimental to Liberty-Lou .
We think Liberty-Lou should sit by the telephone just a little longer don't you ? ......because we are sure that someone will ring to tell her that they love her!

So he has reluctantly put on his school tie , school badges and waistcoat dragged his little satchel all the way to school for the first day back.
Miss Honey his teacher has already been making him do sums , reading and writing so he is not a happy old bear today but hopefully by the end of the first week back he will soon be settled into it and he does love Miss Honey his teacher!
Kensington is a Chiltern bear dating to C1940/50. He is stuffed throughout with wood wool.
Rather Fortunately for Kensington he has retained perfectly his original nose and mouth stitching unlike some of the little bears in his class that have had their noses kissed away by the mothers, but his hasn't happened to Kensington because he is an orphaned bear without a mother !
Kensington measures 14" in height from head to foot paw.
Kensington is a five-way jointed old bear and all his joints turn but his left arm and right leg are a little stiff with a touch of old bear rheumatics but this doesn't seem to trouble him too much and Miss Honey has told him just to take an extra spoonful of cod liver oil with his honey at breakfast and that should help him!
He has perfect eyesight as he has his original amber and black glass eyes so he doesn't have to sit at the front of the class near the blackboard either like some of the badly sighted old bears in his class do!
His little paw pads are all covered in their original rexine material covering , however his left paw pad covering has been partly recovered and very neatly too in a patch of old rexine to match well with the rest of his original paw pad and it really has been very well and sympathetically done .
He comes dressed in his knitted green waistcoat , with his vintage school badges pinned proudly to it one for which he was awarded for his Great swimming achievement at school , and he really enjoys going to the swimming baths weekly with his class ! The other has the letter 'K' for Kensington on it so Miss Honey wont forget his name in class!........and not forgetting too his school tie and his little paper that he made all by himself too today on his first day back!

But don't worry he is currently being well cared and looked after in our nursery By our Elder bear here Miss Merrylegs who has no bear cubs of her own but cares and tends to all the little orphaned bears that arrive here as if they were her very own!
He has obviously been once a well loved little Chad Valley Cubby bear as he doesn't have much of his cinnamon brown and beige coloured mohair left these days on his little body due to it all been almost loved and hugged away!
All of his little paw pads have been either patched ,stitched, darned and recovered with love and a needle many years ago too.
Baby Cubby measures just 9" in seated height.
He is a slumpy little baby Cubby bear stuffed softly with kapok to his body, limbs and head with just a touch of wood wool in his muzzle area
He is only jointed at the neck and arms they do all turn but they are a little stiff with a touch of old bear rheumatics which is to be expected at times when you are well over seventy bear years .
He was made as a sitting little Baby Cubby bear and the legs were never jointed .
Baby Cubby has had a few of his little nose stitches kissed away over the years but most are still there and he still has his original mouth stitching.
He has kept four black claw stitches to both of his feet and lost one on his right paw.
Baby Cubby's amber and black glass eyes are later replacements but suit him perfectly.
Miss Merrylegs has been so kind and made him a little cotton lace collar pinned with a little rusty bell and threaded his vintage knitted pants with some antique style lemon ribbon she had in her sewing basket so he looks Baby Cubby bear cute now and all that he needs now is a Loving Mommy!!
