CHAPTER 2 - THE GREAT ESCAPE
Once Upon A Time Bears
come to you
sprinkled with love
Scents of lavender
clean & prettily wrapped with a lavender bag
a Once upon a time bears tag
Poor Old Tilly Button what tales of woe she has shared with us over a much needed cup of soothing camomile and honey tea from tugs of love over her resulting in quite a few stitched bear wounds , loss of use of her arm , losing her eyesight and finally abandonment and not being loved anymore, infact by the time her story had finished we had all had shed a tear for her bear bravery and struggles all on her own!
Tilly Button measures approximately 14" in height and she is stuffed from head to paw with woodwool and old bear memories.
She was blinded by an unfortunate accident many years ago and a very loving nurse in the house that she lived at in the the late 1930's found some suitable black wooden boot buttons in her emergency box and gave her back some partial sight at least!
Her nose stitching is original to her and is stitched in the Chiltern bear style of vertical long stitches with two longer outer upward stitches.
Unfortunately for Poor Old Tilly Button she has lost her mouth stitching so she tends to be a very quiet little bear who can only really just bear whisper these days!
On one dark evening at the beginning of the 1940s there was not only a battle going on outside in the skies but one was also going on inside over Tilly Button here as to who was having her for comfort in the shelter and this resulted in a wound to her left arm at the wrist which needed the immediate attention of the nurse in the household and her Emergency box containing cottons , buttons and needles and further more her right arm was pulled right out at the joint and had to be securely restitched to her body but sadly this operation has left it unable to turn but Tilly Button has got used to this lack of arm movement over the years and still manages to do things with a smile and her other working arm of course !
Thankfully Tilly doesn't have a problem with her legs and like her head and left arm they all turn and move well for her!
Tilly Buttons paw pads and her left foot pad are all covered in their original twill cotton cloth material and are in pretty good order , apart from a couple of teeny little holes in her left foot pad which are really nothing to be concerned about and everything is held securely and firmly .
However Tilly's right foot pad has been sympathetically and very neatly recovered at some time in her life for her in cotton material.
The nurse of the house that Tilly lived at was quite adept with her nursing and needle skills and Tilly visited her on other occasions it would seem too as she has had some other little neat and tiny stitches given to seams but these are are quite hard to see and detect really as time is a great healer !
Tilly comes dressed in her pretty vintage peachy pink knitted dress and cardigan which like her have had a few neat and tiny repair stitches over the years , carrying he little bunch of flowers and she has inherited also a little charm of antique style bronze buttons around her neck on silk ribbon to remind her of the family name of Button where she Once lived or is it perhaps just a reminder
of the Emergency sewing box that seemed to always come out for her Once upon a time ?
We are really hoping that someone will find a place in their heart for Pretty Tilly Button and give her some much deserved love and hopefully perhaps some bear friends too ?
